Carriacou Regatta time

After the pig roast, we headed into Hillsboro for the afternoon and then back over to Tyrell bay for a few days.   Next, we moved to check out Pettite Martinique and Petite Saint Vincent.  What a beautiful anchorage, the water is so pretty.  We had some friends staying in another bay on Carriacou so we headed back over there and spend about 3-4 days there.

The water and snorkeling were fantastic.  The beach was deserted so we could let the dogs just run and play.  One afternoon we hiked this fabulous trail with the pups and another buddy boat.   Then back to the beach to cool off.  We saw a couple of cows and the puppies had a bit of a chase for a while but came back after being exhausted.  Now, it was time to head over to Hillsboro to re-provision our food and get a good spot for the upcoming regatta in the next couple of days.  It was time for the Carriacou Regatta.

The Regatta

The regatta was filled with events in the evenings and sailing races during the day.  We were lucky to have several of the sailing races come right by our boat.  We followed some of the race boats in our dinghies on a couple of the races.  I put together a very short video of some of the sailing races we got to see.

It was neat to see all the different types of boats.  All ages participated they had small boats that the kids raced it.  The races were fantastic to watch.  The first evening they had a neat opening ceremony with traditional dance performances.  There were a lot of parties going on and on every night.   The night before the end of the regatta they had a wonderful display of fireworks.

The last day was filled with competitions on stage from hot dog eating to weight lifting.  Unfortnuly the donkey races and greasy pole were both canceled but we were not sure they were ever going to occur.  It was a shame people came from all over to compete for the top prize on the greasy pole.

All in all, it was a great regatta and we were thrilled to be there for it.  Time to head to the main island of Grenada.   Carnival is going on soon and we defiantly want to be a part of it.  Oh, don’t miss the video and pictures below.

Cheers,

Jill
