We had a pretty big rain storm in the middle of the night and scrambled to get the hatches all closed up.  Some things got wet, but it wasn’t too bad.  We didn’t sleep all that well and got up early so we could get going and back to the dock to return this boat to the Marina.  This was not my favorite boat, but more on that in another post.

The sail back was similar to the sail going but not as wet.  We were able to fix the dodger enough so that we had a little protection from the water. The seas were not as rough going back but we were unable to sail, which was a bummer.

Palm Cay Marina was on the horizon shortly before 11:00 am and we had the boat fueled up and checked off by 1:00 pm  Grabbed a cab and headed into downtown Nassau to check into the hotel for the night. We decided to check out the city a bit before flying back tomorrow instead of staying on the boat in the marina which we did the first night when we arrived.  I had never been to Nassau and it had been many years for Dave.  The one thing we were really excited about was the hotel. Don’t get me wrong we love being on a boat and on the water, just not this boat.  UPDATE: This boat has been removed from their charter lineup.

Rest and Relaxation

When we got to the hotel, our room was really nice, cool and had a big shower.  We both took showers and just relaxed a bit in the room, checked out things to do in the area of town we were in.  We wanted to just bum around the area and not deal with a cab but just relax.
First stop was the Pirates Museum which I had on my original things to do in Nassau list if we got a chance.  Super excited it was very close to our hotel.  This is a very well done museum, some of it is a little cheezy but it had a lot of information and great displays of ships and pirates.  We enjoyed it.  On our way out of the museum, it is connected to a little bar and restaurant.   So, we bellied up to the bar for a cocktail that our very jovial bartender created for us.  We had a great time chatting with him.  After that we walked around the area a bit but didn’t really see anywhere to eat so we ended up eating at the hotel, which was fine, the food was good and we were pretty exhausted.

I can’t believe this is the end of our trip.  It was a very interesting trip and we had a blast.  The Bahamas are beautiful,  we will definitely be back.  There is so much we didn’t see that we can’t wait to come back to explore.  This was an amazing trip.   What a fabulous way to spend your 40th birthday (ok. not on the exact day but close enough).

Happy Sailing,
Jill
