Well, after our last couple of days in Yellowstone, it was time to head out. We were heading for A Family meet-up in Leavenworth! In case you don’t know where Leavenworth is, it is in Washington State on the east side of the Cascade Mountains. We are going to meet up with Dave’s brother and his family for a few days. It has been almost two years since we have seen them. So, it will be great to catch up.
Two Stops
Got a spot at a dispersed camping place for the night. Basically it had toilets and a parking lot. It was actually the parking lot for a trailhead called Homestake. Worked out great for us. The next morning we got up and made it to Coeur d’Alene, Idaho by the afternoon. Got to catch up on our laundry and some other basic tasks. For dinner, we checked out a place called Capone’s. It was really good and had a great atmosphere.
Car Trouble
The next morning we headed out early in plans to make it to Leavenworth by lunchtime. However, when we stopped for gas about an hour out Dave found a problem. While he was pumping gas he noticed the car we tow was running. He went to turn it off and was locked out. We got the second set of keys we had and tried to unlock it with the key fob. Didn’t work, tried the key in the door and that didn’t work. Went over to a Honda dealership and they said they could help us in an hour. So, we waited and after an hour they said to call a locksmith we can’t help you. Luckily, we have AAA and they were there in 15 minutes. Unlocked the car, turned it off. We both are 99% sure we turned the car off in the morning so we are not sure how it started. Either way, it was a pain in the butt and now we always double-check to make sure the engine is off.
Leavenworth
After all, that mess we got to Leavenworth mid-afternoon, and Dave’s brother was waiting for us. Spent the next few days catching up on all that they had done and telling stories of our sailing trip. On Saturday we took the side by side of Steve’s, He and Ellis rode their dirtbikes and we went for a couple of hours on trails. It was a blast! Stopped at some pretty neat places with breathtaking views of the surrounding area. You could see for miles. In the afternoon one of Dave’s longtime friends and his wife drove up and hung out with us for the day. Great to finally meet them. We had a fun time just relaxing and chatting.
Sunday we started talking about our next stop, Crater lake. But, we decided to head to Olympic National Park first. Can’t wait to see some of the rainforests.
