Well, we had a very productive weekend at the boat. We tackled most things on our list in the short two days.  As you can see from the picture the first coat of epoxy is on!  The yard is working this week and next to hopefully get the bottom job all done.  Dave and I took care of a bunch of tasks to get the boat ready for the captain to bring her home.

One of the things we didn’t manage to get done was fixing the anchor light.  I was going to go up the mast to fix it but we had pretty strong winds both Saturday and Sunday.  We will put that off until next time or have the guys at the yard fix it. 🙁  I was pretty bummed about the wind.  What did we get done then?

We each worked on different things but helped each other as needed.  With the short amount of time we were there we decided best to divide and conquer. Here is kind of a random list of things we tackled.

Dave’s List

Daves list consisted of installing batteries, seeing if the radar was salvageable, solving the propane issue, and installing a new VHF.  The batteries we ordered were delivered to the yard so we were able to get them installed and working.  Dave had to hoist them up with a rope, not something you went to carry up a tall ladder.  You could say his back is a bit sore.  When Dave was testing the batteries he tested the only 1 on the boat which a very large battery and it was basically dead. He took that off and we will remove it with the help of some friends when we get her home.  We now have enough batteries to get her home.

We may change some of the what we set up once home but we wanted our captain to be set up and have no worries.  Big job off our checklist. Happy Dance!!  Plus! Dave got the propane solved, the VHF installed and determined the Radar is shot…That was a bummer, we were kind of expecting that but, we were really hoping we could get it to work. Sigh!

Jill’s List

My list consisted of doing a lot of measuring including fridge, cushions, curtains, and washer.  I Cleaned out the washer to see if it was salvageable and take pictures of it.  I also exercised all of the thru-hulls and cleaned out the remaining aft cabins.

Being there made it possible for us to check on progress being made and see for ourselves what has been done.  This was a huge bonus for us.  Seeing that the first coat of epoxy is on was a huge boost!  We have 2 holes in the bottom of our boat which is actually great news!!  This seems like it would be bad news but, seeing those holes mean the sail drive is out and being worked on and the rudder is out being rebuilt.

Rest of the Weekend

We also noticed we had a missing sail ……where did it go??  We didn’t notice it missing at first but after we left the boat the first night Dave asked me if I saw the sail in the master cabin and I said no, and then we realized it was missing from the boat.  It is the headsail that we’re having a new one made because it is shot.   We still want to keep it.  We have emails out to the yard and sail company to see if we can track it down.

Update turns out the gentlemen from the sailing company took it to measure, so all good there. Phew!

Daves mom came up to meet us Saturday night for dinner and bumming around the city.  We always have a great time.  Dave and I were pretty sore so unfortunately,  we probably weren’t too much fun, sorry Phyllis!

Well, that is pretty much our weekend at the boat!  I hope you have a great weekend and please feel free to post any comments or questions below in the comment section!  Click here to read our previous boat update post.
