It is time to say Goodbye Bahamas!  We are all set to leave San Salvador in the morning or so we think.  During an update on our Garmin Chart plotter the night before it crashes.  I know! I know! What were you thinking, why did you do it the night before you were leaving?  It was an honest mistake and we have not had any problems until now.  Dave worked on it all night and finally called it quits after putting in a note to Garmin.

Garmin Issues Continue

We got up the next morning and continued troubleshooting while Dave installed other systems for us to use its case we couldn’t get it fixed.  We had a great weather window and we needed to take advantage of it if we could.  Dave got other systems installed on our tablets and phones and felt confident that we would be ok without the Garmin.  We also have an old Raymarine Chartplotter that still works, so that was a plus.

Dave and I finally got a hold of Garmin and he troubleshot the issue with them.  They finally told him that the new update they had online was corrupt and they didn’t know when it would be fixed.  How frustrating, it was not even a year old and it was not useable until Garmin put out a quality update.  VERY FRUSTRATING!  While Dave was busy with Garmin I went to customs and immigration to check us out.

Checking out

I got there and easily checked out of customs, but immigration had not arrived yet.  They called the gentlemen and he said he would be there in 15-20 minutes.  Which was good we needed to get out of the marina during high tide.  However, I waited for over an hour for him to show up.  Yep, you guessed it, welcome to island time.  Once he arrived I was all checked out in under 10 minutes and headed back to the boat.

When I got back to the boat Dave told me he had everything set up but we would have to go without the Garmin chart plotter.  If he felt confident, that was enough for me.  We said our goodbyes and threw the lines.  It was off to Puerto Rico. Goodbye Bahamas!

Passage to Puerto Rico

We were planning on it being a 5-6 day sail and maybe as long as 8 days depending on the winds and the weather.  The first few days we made really good time.  We motored from Tuesday to early Friday.  Friday we were able to pull up the sails and turn the motor off.  It was now a straight shot south to the western side of Puerto Rico.

Saturday the winds and waves began to pick up which we were planning for due to our weather forecast from Chris Parker.  The nice thing was we had made such good time the other few days that we only ended up being in the high winds and waves a little over half of Saturday.  By around 830pm we were able to tuck in the island of Puerto Rico and the wind died and the water became calm.  We had to turn the motor on for the remaining sail to the Marina where we would check in.

We arrived at Marina Pescadaria at 230am and tied to the fuel dock to wait for them to open, check in, get our slip and go through customs.

More on the marina and check in next week,  It was a long sail and off to bed for us!!  Enjoy the video below, it isn’t much we didn’s see a lot but here it is.
