After moving on from the Black Hills and spending the night in Gillette, Wyoming we headed out at 9 am.  Today we are heading to The American West, Cody Wyoming.  There is a lot to do and see in Cody.  It is also the east entrance to Yellowstone National Park, which we plan to visit.  But, first, we are going to meet up with some good friends we met sailing.  They are traveling in an RV right now as well so tomorrow we will meet them here in Cody and see the sights together.  After that, then we will go check out Yellowstone.  Back to where I was,  heading to Cody.

Big Game Campground

We got to our first pick campground called Big Game.  Found the perfect spot.  Spot 11 a huge spot and perfect for us.  It has a fire ring, picnic table, and backs to the river.  Tucked back in so you don’t hear much of the road noise either.  It is $10 a night, no services but a great spot.  After getting set up we decided to go and scout the other campgrounds and compare them.  Turns out this campground is the cheapest and has the best site for us.  All the other campgrounds were $15 for no services.  There was one other place we liked but it was all booked up.  It is called Wapiti campground and they have 21 sites that offer electricity and the charge is only $5 more, putting it a $20 a night.  Not bad we will watch this one.

Boaty Friend Meet up

Our friends John and Sally arrived Thursday afternoon and our campground was full.  Since we had such a huge site there were able to just pull in behind us for the night.  We all had reservations for Fri-Sun at the Buffalo Bill State Park North Shore campground.  So, we would all just be here tonight.  What a great time, John cooked ribs over the fire, we made potatoes and onions on the grill and had a cheesy corn dish.  We got to just hang out and catch up.  Love hanging with these two people we always have so much fun.  The next morning we were able to move into our next campground a little earlier. So, we set up our sites and then headed into Cody to check out the Buffalo Bill Center of the West.

Buffalo Bill Center of the West

This is an interesting center, it is 5 museums in one building.  You can pay for all five or each individually but it is a much better deal to pay for all 5 even if you only see 2.  I won’t quote prices because prices are always changing.  But, look it up before you go and decide.  Anyway, the five museums are Buffalo Bill Museum, The New Cody Fire Arms Museum (this is the one the guys wanted to see), Plains Indian Museum, Whitney Western Art Museum, and Draper National History Museum.  Your pass is good for two days.  We only saw the gun museum and the Buffalo Bill museum.  The two we did see were done very well and just packed full of information.  The gun museum is the most comprehensive firearms museum in the United States according to its website.  I highly recommend it, absolutely won’t be disappointed.

Tour of the Town

The next day we stopped at the Buffalo Bill Damn on the way into town.  It is an impressive damn. Beautiful views.  They have got a small visitor center full of information on the damn and other things in the area.  The history of the damn is quite interesting as well as just seeing it.  After that, we stopped in at a little Old Fashioned Soda Saloon called Annies.  What a hidden gem this place turned out to be.  They make their ice cream and sodas and then create all theses delicious little concoctions.  You can even create your own concoction.  I am telling you to stop here!!  It was soo good.  We should have taken pictures of what we got but we gobbled them up too quickly.

After that we stopped into the silver dollar bar and had a beer, then we stopped into a local brewery to try their beer.  They were very tasty.  Next, we popped into The Meatery ( a restaurant and butcher) and picked up some beef sausage and a dinner of pork sandwiches, coleslaw, and potato for the 4 of us.  We headed back to RV’s to hang out with the pups and get in the water a bit.  Later we were going to go into the rodeo.

Last night Plans

Unfortunately, when we got back to the RV the winds had picked up so it was too cool to get into the water.  Then it started to rain, so the rodeo was out as well.  Oh, well an early night.  Tomorrow we move again, say goodbye to John and Sally, and head into Yellowstone.

Cheers,

Jill
