After running a few errands, we got unplugged and headed out of Las Vegas.  The Mighty Grand Canyon is our next destination.  We will make make a couple of stops on our way there.  The first stop will be Kingsman, AZ.  We need to catch up on laundry, change the oil, and clean up a bit.

Kingsman

Pulled into the campground and got right to work.  Got the laundry going while Dave changed the oil.  Changed out the air filters also.  After we got all our chores done we decided to check out a rum distillery that is here in the area.  Desert Diamond Distillery.  It is Arizona’s oldest distillery.  Really neat place and had a good agave rum which we had never tried before.

Grand Canyon

The next morning we got up and headed out to The Mighty Grand Canyon.  It has been a long time since I have been here and Dave never has.  We arrived around 10:40 am at Trailers Village RV park, which was inside the park.  It was actually the only one open.  After getting settled we talked to a couple of rangers and found out several of the walks the dogs could join us.  The views are breathtaking.  It was a little smokey and cloudy from the fires burning and a storm coming in.  The storm actually dropped the temperature quite a bit which made it nice to do our walks with the pups.  We walked to Mather point and Yavapai’s point.

Desert View Drive

We drove the desert view drive to Grandview point and then attempted to go to the desert view watchtower but before getting there we were turned around.  The Navajo Nation Indian tribe runs the tower and they went into lockdown last night at midnight due to COVID-19.   They will be in lockdown until at least Monday.  As I pulled up their site while writing this post I see they will remain closed until January 1, 2021.  A lot of the spots we were hoping to check out were closed because of this.  Anyway, we made the most of it.

We did walk around and check out the lookout studio and Kolb studio.  Great views, nothing here disappoints.   Then we decided that we would get up at sunrise to see the sun come over the canyon. 5:30 am wake up and it was well worth it.  What a beautiful sunrise.  It is very peaceful here in the mornings, not that many people are out which was fantastic.

Heading Out

After the sun came up we headed back to the camper and got ourselves ready to go.   Going to head out since we had seen what we could due to the shutdowns. Onto Petrified Forest and Mesa Verde.
